Alert Plaquemines, a new emergency alert notification system, is now online and available for Plaquemines Parish residents.
In times of an emergency, the Plaquemines Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness can notify participating residents via text message, email or phone call. When signing up for Alert Plaquemines, residents can choose their preferred method of notification between home phone, cell phone, text messaging or emails and receive via all methods as well.
This system is a more user-friendly system that will allow residents to personalize their notifications, selecting what you would and would not like to be notified on. Some examples of potential alert notifications are flood warnings, lightening and hail alerts, tornado warnings, and marine related events such as high wind, hazardous sea warning, and storm warnings. Specific weather related alerts are sent out per the National Weather Service. Opting in for these alerts will result in notifications being sent to you should your listed address be within 5 miles of a National Weather Service weather alert.
If you were registered under the old system you will no longer receive notifications.
