Coronavirus Update and Safety Information
In an effort to suspend the spread of coronavirus, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has announced more drastic measures Monday.
The governor, in an effort to abide by the Center for Disease Control recommendation to limit groups to 50 and under in number, said that the following order will go in effect at midnight on March 17.
• Gatherings are limited to no more than 50 people.
• Casinos and bars will be closed.
• Restaurants will be closed to patrons eating on site. Take-out, drive-through and delivery orders are allowed.
• Movie theaters will be closed.
🚨The measures will be in effect until April 13. Edwards said the situation will be re-evaluated on April 6.
Postponements & Cancellations
Schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, until April 9, 2020, by proclamation of Governor Edwards. Schools will continue to be closed through April 17, 2020, for Spring Break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 20, 2020.

Plaquemines Parish District Attorney: Senior Citizen’s Day, April 1st has been postponed
Council on Aging Centers will be closed Monday, March 16th thru Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Homebound meals will still be delivered.
Plaquemines Social Aid & Pleasure Club 1-Sack Challenge has been postponed.

While there are still no reported confirmed cases of coronavirus in Louisiana, news of the virus continues to break closer and closer to home. This has raised questions about travel plans and best practices to contain the spread of this and other viruses that can develop rapidly. Here is an update on steps the Parish has initiated to prepare and respond to the impact of this virus.
Everyone can help prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Public health professionals recommend that you:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water; if that is not possible, use hand sanitizer.
- Cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
- Avoid close contact (touching or shaking hands) with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching our mouth, nose, and eyes.
- Stay home when you are sick.
