Every day, dozens of students, cyclists, and joggers use the sidewalk along LA-23 accordingly to navigate through Belle Chasse into and out of various communities. I have come to recognize that many streets which intersect LA-23 and the crosswalk do not possess signage, or a visible crosswalk to advise motorist of pedestrian traffic. Most of these streets make it difficult to even see that there is a sidewalk present. Plaquemines Parish is a growing community. If we can implement visible crosswalks throughout Belle Chasse, many more people will take advantage of the sidewalk and in turn benefit the overall esthetic of our community. I believe that our community should lead the way for other parishes to implement better community safety measures and encourage community use of public walkways.
