About
Heartworm disease is a serious disease caused by worms living in the arteries of the lung and in hearts of dogs. It is transferred to a dog by a mosquito which became infected after feeding on another infected dog.
Prevention
Since heartworm disease is preventable, pet owners are strongly encouraged to visit their veterinarian to discuss options on prevention. Mosquito activity in southern Louisiana will always be prevalent. Keep pets inside during peak mosquito times.
