Mobile Home Preparedness

Important Message

There are many Plaquemines Parish residents who live in trailers. For those residents, there is a simple message to follow during a tropical event:

Never Ride Out A Hurricane In A Mobile Home

Vulnerability

There is no one more vulnerable during a hurricane, especially a strong storm, than those living in mobile homes. According to the National Hurricane Center, no mobile or manufactured home-no matter how new it is-can be a safe shelter from hurricane-force winds, even those with hurricane straps and other tie-downs.

Plaquemines Parish encourages all mobile home residents to make alternative arrangements during any tropical event in order to vacate the home until a storm has passed. Your local American Red Cross will have a list of evacuation shelters available.

Before You Evacuate

Before you evacuate, make sure you secure your mobile home with over-the-top straps that are secured by anchors on either side, or frame ties to prevent the home from tipping over. If you have any questions about how to properly secure your trailer, contact the manufacturer.
