The large swarms of insects that are being seen in some areas of our parish that resemble mosquitoes are in fact just various species of midge and mayfly, they hatch out in the spring and pose no threat to public health. Midges and mayflies are an important food source for many animals including birds and fish. Although they do not bite or carry disease they do make somewhat of a mess and can become a nuisance. Our mosquito spraying will begin soon and this should provide some relief for those that are annoyed by there presence.
