Parish President Amos Cormier met with Mathew Sanders and Dakota Fisher, representatives from the Office of Community Development – Disaster Recovery Unit, the state’s central point for hurricane recovery, to talk about the upcoming LASAFE (Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments) funds dedicated to Plaquemines Parish. After a series of public meetings over the last year with parish residents, two Resiliency projects were selected. $4.5 million for a Harbor of Refuge, or Safe Harbor to be created at Empire Boat Harbor which will enable boats to safely dock during storms. The second project will be $1.5 million Mental Health and Substance Abuse Program, addressing the current opioid crisis through Plaquemines C.A.R.E Center.
