The French Consul General Vincent Sciama graciously accepted President Cormier’s invitation to visit Plaquemines Parish on March 16th. President Cormier and the French Consul General discussed economic development opportunities, especially attracting some of the numerous French tourists to shop and eat in Plaquemines. His trip also entailed a tribute to the La Salle Monument outside Fort Jackson. The 100 foot tall monument was placed there and dedicated on April 9th, 1967, commemorating the day that Robert Cavelier De La Salle claimed the entire Mississippi Valley for France.
